Shiny Inspirations

There's lots of shiny inspiration in the Altenew Let It Shine course! Today I have 2 cards to share – one of them I made for my brother for his birthday recently!!

First up – foiling. I’ve had some tubes of foil around for awhile but haven’t really gotten around to using them. However, with so many holidays just around the corner, I feel like it can add just a special touch needed and I’m looking forward to more use. There are several ways to use this material and today I’m going to share one that doesn’t require any heating tool.

To create this You Inspire Me card, I pulled out some old patterned paper from my stash and placed the Altenew Elegant Swirls Stencil on top of it. Then I brushed DecoFoil Transfer Gel Duo all over it. Before you can move on with foiling it, you have to let the gel dry. You can tell when it’s ready because it’ll get a clear appearance and still be a bit tacky (usually about 1 hour). At this point, place the foil - I used iFoil DecoFoil in Wild Cherry - on top of the dried gel – remembering to have the colorful side up (facing you). If you’re not using heat, you do have to apply pressure to get the transfer to happen. I pulled out my Big Shot and used my embossing sandwich to apply the pressure for transfer. I really like the way it turned out. Next, I selected the “You Inspire Me” sentiment from the Altenew Adore You Stamp set and inked that up with Altenew Ruby Red Crisp Ink. After fussy cutting around the sentiment, I added some craft foam to the back of it and the card panel and glued it all on my cardbase. A simple card that packs some punch!

Next, I decided I wanted to keep to my promise of a more masculine card for each class… and my brother’s birthday was coming up. Perfect! As an added plus – I determined that you CAN add glitter to a card for the guys in your life!

I started by ink blending Distress Oxide in Mowed Lawn, Peeled Paint, and Shabby Shutters on some cardstock and then used the Altenew Just Leaves Die Set to cut out a few leaves. I decided I needed to add a bit more color to the leaves so I added Distress Oxides in Frayed Burlap and Gathered Twigs. Then digging through my paper stash, I pulled out the striped patterned paper and some gray paper. Of course, I said you CAN add glitter! I had some bronze glitter paper in my stash so I used the Altenew Linear Crossroads Die to create some interest to the background and a couple of hole punches to punch a few circles for added “shine” 😊I stamped the Happy Birthday sentiment from the Altenew Birthday Greetings Stamp Set using Distress Oxide Crackling Campfire, glued all the layers together and added some craft foam behind the larger gray panel before adhering to the card base.

The following is a list of the tools I used for these projects.
